Devastation Unveiled
by Steve Gibson, May 16, 2001 5:55am PDTBluesNews has gotten the scoop on another new next-gen Unreal technology game. Guess what, it's multiplayer squad based again! Here's the description of the title and also some screenshots that they released along with it:
Devastation is a team-based strategy FPS running on next generation Unreal Engine technology. Set in the very near future, dozens of unique characters are pit against each other in urban combat spanning several devastated locales. Devastation focuses on intense multiplayer action with an equally satisfying single-player experience. The revolutionary AI enables computer-controlled players to be both strategically cunning enemies, as well as highly intelligent allies. Devastation reinvents the FPS genre with a fresh game type that will appeal to both hardcore DM and Team-Play fans alike. Also included for online tournament play are maps specifically designed for traditional DM and CTF game-types.

Hmmm... Sounds more like they've been screwing around with an older version of the Unreal engine on their own instead of using the latest version of the Unreal Engine if you ask me. One would guess that they did a lot of work with the old Unreal Engine during their Virtual Notre Dame project.
The models don't look all that hot either if this is supposed to be next-gen Unreal Engine stuff: http://www.digitalo.com/Devastation2Players.jpg

What worse?
1. No sceenshots?
2. Several screenshots of 1 map that give NO sense of what the game is about?

Operation Flashpoint
Counter strike does not have AI allies and enemies (yet)
Closest predecesor to OFP would be Q3 teamgame with bots
but!!!
I fuckin hate seeing awsome details without any hint of action!! This is supposed to be a team based game with "intense multiplayer action". Sure it looks like a low detail 3dmax scene but YOU CANT PLAY A 3DMAX SCENE. This will be a dud becuase they have spent months on pretty details and there is no evidence of physics, effects, ai or interface. Screenshots can tell you much about the producer's (prob not developer's) attitude to the game. "Make it look cool! Ai is easy isn't it?".
