First Look at AvP2
by Maarten Goldstein, May 13, 2001 7:00am PDT3D Action Planet has taken a first look at Alien versus Predator 2, the upcoming Monolith game. It's a nice overview of what is known so far about this sequel to the original Rebellion game. The first few screenshots we recently saw weren't mind blowing, but sufficient as long as they get the gameplay right (and not make the game so freakin' hard again). Here's a snip
Thankfully, early reports about AvP 2 indicate that Monolith will be doing a lot to make the game more playable while retaining the same grim mood as before. Level design is going to be changed for the better. Instead of finding yourself trapped in dark hallways all the time, or perhaps trapped in a dark hallway, or maybe walking down a hallway (which happens to be dark) and soon finding yourself trapped in it and facing enemies from all directions, the new levels will contain a lot more variety. There will be some more lighting than before, more open spaces, and even outdoor areas.

Doom3 doesnt exist, its going to be out
in 18months or so maybe? Its going to
require a GF3. It wont run on anything else,
if Im not mistaken, in fact itll probably run kinda
poopy on a GF3 with everything cranked, so lets
stop basing all our comments on it.
Kinda like Halo and Tribes2, oh yeah where the fuck is Halo now?

I can't wait. NOLF with Aliens and Predators.
Who wants to start placing bets on whether this goes down in flames sales wise like, well, every other Lithtech game has?

Talk about the most dumb-ass logic I've ever heard from someone on this board.
First of all, since the issue was Win2k only, and it was a Win2k code-related problem- Microsoft needed to fix the problem.
Also, the Service pack was out BEFORE NOLF came out. This was apparently a bug in Win2k code
In fact: here is the bug from microsoft's site: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q260/9/16.ASP
The dumbasses really come out for Monolith-related posts.

In other words, the thing a lot of people found very cool about the first game?
Thanks!

?!? um AvP wasn't all that hard...beat the whole thing on directors cut....the game was freaky sure...but not all that hard
I think these guys want the game to do well, and to make that happen they must make it more appealing. That means making it easier for Joe Average so he can get through the game. It's almost too bad though, the first one made you shit your pants on occasion.
AvP was excellent, and I still find myself wanting to go back and play again. Sure the graphics blew, but it had crazy-good gameplay and atmosphere. Opening up the levels and adding light will destroy the atmosphere, and ... well, maybe they can retain the gameplay, but without the atmosphere, I'm not very interested.

Considering that every reputable fps developer has plenty of outdoor areas to spice up the game, it's almost expected that there should be outdoor areas. FOX (or is it Rebellion) needs to wake the fuck up and modernize their game.
Thanks!

I want to be a plant with gas! Having the facehuggers in this could spice it up nicely.
I'd love to feel trapped in dark corridors again but it seems they'll leave it to Doom3:)
BNA!
