Apple Opening Retail Stores

Uh, I'd think Apple is doing mighty well if they're opening stores .. I dunno.

I love how when something like this comes up, everyone turns into a financial analyst. But anyway, bash on Apple all you like...just remember that Apple users (myself included) are entitled to more than their fair share of chuckles at the Microsoft world the PC world. Enjoy your subscription software guys, it should be nice. :)

there are apple stores in melbourne(aus) already and there has been for quite some time(years)

Um, Apple isn't hurting right now guys. Apple has over $2 billion in cash and sales (except for the cube) are increasing (and expected to). How many of you PC guys can burn a DVD that's usable in a DVD player? I mean, I'm not sure.... but I'm pretty positive no one is shipping PCs with DVD/CD writers (as one unit).. more importantly the software to make your own DVD movies (which you then write to DVD and watch at home). And is there a laptop as cool as the G4 Powerbook? I think not. Speaking of which, i'm uber pissed off that the new iBooks are sooo much better than the one I bought in October (466MHz G3 DVD, etc).

Bash apple aaallll you want. They're still the ones innovating. Microsoft is still just following what Apple does in hopes of making their shit look almost as good.

I would buy a copy of OSX if they ported it to x86. If gateway can afford to open stores then Apple can to assuming they make more money than gateway which I think they do.

I think Apple's excused for offering stores in this case - Macs are all about getting an elegant package which will (most likely) not break down on you for a long time. If you're not the sort who worries about upgrading their video card or RAM, you might as well admit it and get a Mac - you'll have less worries in the long run (provided that Apple doesn't crash and burn).

Anyone seen the new iBook? Certainly looks like it'd be nice for a student's machine at least...

Well if they have stores that sell just sunglasses and other stores that just sell beads they might have some chance of going bankrupt doing well.

Apple will go belly up in under a year if they try & support a retail network. They don't have the sales to back it up. It will be an enormous cash hemorrhage...

Then again, I could just be biased & on crack. Time will tell.
