SoF2 Preview

Well it's just Soldier of Fortune 2 day huh? After the announcement and screenshots comes the online preview, courtesy of Gamespot. The preview of the game (sub-titled Double Helix) features quotes from Raven designer Jon Zuk and also comes with even more screenshots from this Quake3-engine powered game. Thanks Stomped.

So what about the realism? Raven is definitely striving to make Soldier of Fortune 2 significantly more realistic than the first game. While the sequel is an action game first and foremost, it will play more like an interactive movie than an all-out shooter. The first step in ensuring realism is the actual weapons that will be featured in the sequel--no more microwave guns or obscenely large rocket launchers. "We're including 14 melee, pistol, and rifle weapons, as well as a total of 10 different types of grenades,"

WTF are they thinking with no multiplayer???? With Weapons like that, If the gameplay is good and with the proper hype machine this would be the next Counter Strike. And I would welcome it. CS is good, but I would like to play some CS on a spiffy new engine and not the Q1/Half-Life engine.

and it wasn't broken at all!

sof was (unfortunately) uniquely awesome, don't make it different.

interactive movie.
worked well in wing commander 3, but that's about it.
all those lame-ass interactive games (i heard something about sneaking in a previous post) like deus ex SUCK ASS compared to sof.

please.

I believe this game is gonna rock. I have been a big fan of Raven ever since they came out with Hexen2 and Heretic2. They really know how to optimize the quake engines. I liked SOF even though the quake2 engine looked dated by the time it came out. I am also not a Star Trek fan, but I really enjoyed STEF. They did a good job with the Q3 engine.
