Burning Slow P4?

I own a p4 1.5. It f#$king rocks.

If you AMD knobs would quit posting in the Shack all day, maybe you could get real jobs and be able to afford a p4.

I'd probably use AMD except for one little thing: Intel uses Blue Man Group in it's advertising, and their Vegas show pretty much rocked my house down.

So for now, it's Intel 4EVA FANBOY!!!!!!11, at least until Chris/Matt/Phil find their Intel contract go ka-poof.

that sucks, some overclockers are going to be pissed they have to buy better fans ect even though the p4 might be able to take the heat.

If AMD put this in their design, there wouldn't be a single burned-out Athlon on the face of the planet. Also, you have to admire the mobo manufacturers for putting in a temperature level that kicks in the throttling.

I'm certainly no big fan of the current incarnation of the P4 but trying to turn this thermal protection circuit into an issue is silly. You'll never come anywhere close to triggering this circuit under normal OR overclocked use. This is basically a protective measure if your hsf should fail. And its a Good Thing. My 1ghz athlon would take ~7-8 seconds to fry itself if I should fail to secure my hsf properly.

Steve, I really can't believe that this is posted here. It really must be a slow day.

If this was true then when the P4 first came out or an approprate chip from AMD and benchmarks were done from Anand or Toms or whoever, you would have seen it there.

These benchmarks would have created alot of heat and by the third set of test the scores would have been alot slower. 50% is not a trivial amount.

it comes turned off by default...enough said...theres no real problem here...kinda wish my AMD procs had it...then I wouldn't be so worried about overclocking them to a gig+

Throttling has been a documented feature of the P4 for ages. This should be no surprise to anyone.

This is just an open invetation to bash intel. what a bunch of shit. I dont need no stinkin heat protection...I like it when my processor toasts itself. Hell I dont even need fans or heat sinks. I cook on my processor... Eggs OverSIMD my favorite, yum Yum YUM!!!

The cpu will almost NEVER EVER reach the heat when the thermal protection kicks in. It doesn't use thermal protection whenever you run it full blast, only if it overheats. The article may sound a bit misleading.
