Richard Garriott Interview
by Maarten Goldstein, Apr 09, 2001 11:21am PDTGamespy Daily has posted an interview with Richard Garriott, founder of Origin and also the original creator of the Ultima games. Until recently he was under an NDA that prevented him from talking about Origin/EA but the NDA expired on April 1st. Gamespy Daily asks him about the closing of Origin, what happened with Origin once Electronic Arts took over, Ultima Online, the bugs in Ultima 9 and several other things related to the company.
GS: How do you think the long-time Ultima fans (fans of Ultimas 1-9) would have reacted to Ultima Online 2, had it reached completion and opened for business? RG: At first, I was very concerned, as the departure was great. However, the team began to develop the proper Ultima story crafting that is essential to an Ultima. Over time, they were getting it down. Ultimately, it would have worked and been accepted I think.
