Light It Up

3DAP sends word of an article for weekend reading that you guys might like. Looking at lighting in gaming and how it well uh.. absolutely not realistic at all yet. (Them light thingies are complex!). There are a couple brief quotes from The Carmack in there (Sorry no DOOM stuff)

'Real' lighting falls off at 1/r^2 [where r is the distance from the eye to the light source], which doesn't work well for games without calculating secondary reflections, which still isn't done dynamically." But the lighting is now consistent, which means that the various ways it would have been calculated in the Q3A engine all now produce the same results.
