VIA's Unofficial P4 Chipset
by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 20, 2001 7:02am PSTLooks like VIA is getting ready to release a Pentium4 chipset, without official Intel permission to do so. While several other chipmakers such as Ali, Acer and SiS received an official license, VIA is yet to receive one and it's doubtful they ever will because Intel is annoyed with it's competition. VIA has been one of the major AMD chipset suppliers. However, VIA plans to introduce their PX266 chipset for the P4 anyway since they acquired some patents from S3 which they say should cover this. Intel probably won't be amused.

"quite good ones"
but in my eyes even though i use one - for stability and drivers, intel leaves via for dead.
(perhaps not performance anymore though)

Isn't that like requiring a licence to make a car for a set of Firestones?
