PlanetSide News
by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 07, 2001 6:40am PSTCouple of news items on Verant's massive multiplayer online action game, PlanetSide. Such as the fact that they have released three new screenshots of the game. Of course this calls for a minithumbnail rage
... more screenshotsPC.IGN has a new preview of the game which includes a single new screenshot, and Voodoo Extreme has the second installment of the PlanetSide Development Diary. This update is about the friendly fire system, and introduces the members of the development team.
From the perspective of a game designer on PlanetSide, I have to admit that the prospect of full FF damage is pretty scary. There are so many issues that need to be worked out for such a system to be effectively utilized as a game play element. As a design team, weÂ’re looking forward to implementing an FF system that minimizes the negative aspects associated with friendly fire (i.e. grief players). But the challenge is ahead of us to try something different, on a scale never before seen, and that makes it exciting all at the same time. I hope that weÂ’re able to walk away, just like Rainbow Six, with a genre in FPS gaming, this time set against the backdrop of a massively multiplayer game.

As for the $10 a month fee... they HAVE to charge a monthly/yearly fee. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to run the "massively multiplayer" servers. No fee, No servers, No massively multiplayer, no planetside.

Crusader: No Remorse: Always love a good exclusive and here's one for DH. "Crusader: No Remorse", a story of a genetically engineered soldier who turns on his creators, remains one of the most popular computer games out there and now Electronic Arts and Origin have both given the green light to a film version of it. Former stage writer turned film scribe Robin Marlow has already finished the script which has the blessing of the games houses and 20th Century FOX is looking to be the likely candidate to pick it up. Further information as it comes, and thanks to 'The Buzzard'.

The more dumb shots they make, the more irrelevant to the outcome they become. Encourages them to not make dumb shots.

It's pay-to-play.
You can't mod it.
It's by Verant.
I hope it sucks (so I won't be missing anything)
