Disgruntled PS2 Developers
by Steve Gibson, Feb 06, 2001 3:13pm PSTSomething I've heard quite a bit from game developers is that the Playstation2 is just difficult as hell to develop for. It seems those were not isolated incidents either. According to this latest report there is an opinion among US developers that they got the shaft from Sony.
Part of the reason the Japanese electronics giant was able to break into a market dominated by Nintendo and Sega Corp., when it launched the hugely popular PlayStation in 1995, was because it lured third-party game developers to produce top games for an unproven platform. Yet now that the PlayStation is the world's most popular console, some game developers say Sony has neglected them.Sony's response?
[paraphrased: Playstation2 shipped with lots of games though!] ``It's clear that companies that have invested a lot of money in development understand that our business model is long term,'' Smith said.

"An understandably strident Van Leeuwen said "There's no way that we can co-exist. We can't afford to have our business confused with games for kids. Either we find a business solution or we get into a legal battle.

Microsoft could, in fact, attempt to release an Xbox-branded product while the issue is unresolved in the US courts - a process that could take years, according to Jessie Marshall, a USPTO attorney - but this would obviously leave Microsoft vulnerable to an injunction freezing the release, or considerable damages later.
Either way, Xbox Tech seem to believe that they have Microsoft over a barrel, and may even now be considering how to invest their fortuitous windfall. Unless Microsoft either win any legal dispute, or back down and change the name of their already heavily marketed brand and machine, that is. Mmmm."

Can't stand consoles. To damn limited!
Since im never gonna buy a PS2.... its all good.
Sony made ALL of its money one the licensing fees and distrubution fees for PS games..... it made close to nothing on the hardware.
Just a little FYI
I'm curious. Are developers keeping the same size save files on the 8MB memory card, or are they just increasing their file sizes so you still only get a few saves per card? Also, are the memory cards divided into huge (~7.5K) blocks, or are they divided into smaller blocks ala DreamCast?

The PS2 is definitely going to fail.
