NOLF Bonus Pack Shots
by Maarten Goldstein, Feb 02, 2001 2:15pm PSTDan the man over at Monolith send us three screenshots showing three levels from the upcoming bonus pack Monolith is preparing for No One Lives Forever. NOLF really is by far Monolith's best effort so far in my, as well as Steve's opinion and from what I've been reading on the comments, a lot of people agree. Anyway, where the single player mode might've been great there weren't too many multiplayer levels included but Monolith should fix that with this pack. The multiplayer code should be updated as well. The release date? "Very soon".
...more! A description of the screenshots from Dan Miller:
The cool thing about working with the No One Lives Forever DEdit is the variety of textures that came with the game. You can probably build almost any real-time location imaginable with the vast amount of textures available. Unfortunately, the .jpeg format killed alot of detail, but if you look closely, you can see the flies in the lights in "STASI" (screenshot 1). Also, you can go to the moon base in "Orbital Decay" (screenshot 2). Kill your friends in "ClubDead" DM (screenshot 3).

The fact is I didn't like this game. I didn't like how the engine felt. The characters were cool looking and some of the scenerios were fun and original. The mouse control was pretty sluggish at times and the water was very cheezy looking.
With games like UT and Q3 out there I just wouldn't release anything that did't come close to my competitors. You know the other game developers out there play it, and even plug it (George) but in their minds they're saying "Good game but no real competition here." It's the nature of business I guess.
But my original point is if I worked at Monolith and was competing with the other FPS heavy hitters, I wouldn't put anything out that was clearly not on the same level as the games I'm competing with. NOLF seems to be a "Valid Attempt" at a good FPS.

Sluggish engine notwithstanding, I encourage anyone who is wondering whether to purchase this game and might be put off by the naysayers in here to rush and get it anyway, and thank me later. This is SP gaming at its finest. Some pretty fuckin impressive huge-ass levels too.
Sure, it is a great game, but the graphics look like Quake 3 run through a blender.
What happened to Sampson? Is he officially dead?

Running in a lower res was a godsend for aiming, but it looked like ass. If any game needed FSAA, it was NOLF. Those cutscenes almost hurt sometimes.
But I would still like to see a WWII mod or some other realistic mod for NOLF.
Lowtax is gonna crap when he sees this.
"The lights... my god, the lights!" "IT BURNS!! OH GOD IT BURNS!!!"
