Diablo2 = Huge

Blizzard Entertainment just put out a press release (Thanks Blues)announcing that Diablo2 had sold a mind numbing 2.75 million copies in 2000 based on reports from PCData. To compound the numbing the game wasnt even released until June of 2000. Yes, something like 400,000 copies sold every month, or roughly a 100,000 copies every week. In addition, the expansion pack has been named. Diablo2: Lord of Destruction. Here's some of that PR stuff:

...sold more than 2.75 million copies worldwide in 2000, based on information from PC Data and key retail accounts around the world. The game, which shipped in June 2000, is the fastest selling game in Blizzard’s history. The company also confirmed today that the game’s expansion set, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction™ is on target for a worldwide release during the first half of 2001. [snip]

I lost many hours clicking away trying to find that perfect sword... sigh.
