The Shack Ticker (update)

Ok due to overwhelming demand Maarten burned some of that midnight (er.. morning) oil and has come up with the Shack Headline Ticker. Big props to the guys at Stomped for the idea and causing so many people to email us asking for the same feature. The newsticker code is actually from the guys at Dynamic Drive, so they get da mad props as well. So here it is for Windows 98 / NT / 2000 users:

- Right click this, copy shortcut (link location) - Right click on your task bar - Choose Toolbars then New Toolbar - Paste the url where it says Folder - Resize the ticker by clicking and dragging the edge to your liking.

The ticker currently updates the headlines and checks your msgcenter account (assuming you're cool and have one) every 2.5 minutes. I'll get an option in there to choose your funk.y comment link preference later this evening. update: Maarten just added a online/offline function. Just right click on the ticker to stop updating and right click again to begin updates.

You can also add the ticker to your desktop, which I did. That way it doesn't take up taskbar room and is still functional.

I agree with #353. I would use this feature all the time if the text scrolled so I didn't have ot have the bar so big.

just had an idea before i left, if you have the ticker on, since it recognizes your cookie (i assume, it checks your shack msgs), will you appear as "online" even if you're not here? i'll have the shack ticker on at all times, but i won't be ON THE SITE personally at all times

Very, very nice.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but once you create the toolbar you can drag it off you task bar and dock it at the top of your screen.

This is something I could even use at work, when I'm not at a client's site (which is fucking never, but the idea of it is cool)

i do have 1 gripe with it though(as i do with everything)

it'd be much better if each click opened the news item in a brand new window

its pretty anoying when your half reading a news item and see something interesting then click on it and it loads into the page that you hadnt finished reading

Now that is extremely cool, guys! Online Mode and Offline Mode -- very slick stuff.

I see a standard feature on any Win98 or WinME boxes I use... Gotta have the shack ticker. :)
