ZDNet has a story about a new lithography process that allows chipmakers to quickly progress in their quest for 10Ghz machines. Still years away, but at least they know it's possible. Saw that on Stomped.

  • "It is in the nature of exponential growth that events develop extremely slowly for extremely long periods of time, but as one glides through the knee of the curve, events erupt at an increasingly furious pace. And that is what we will experience as we enter the twenty-first century." - Kurzweil

Are people really still awe struck by such news? Heh... I think everyone's seen the times vs. MIPS graphs, and understand on some level that exponential progress is inevitable; as one tech plateaus, another takes off as its replacement.
