UGO & Shugashack

Not to be outdone by CNET, UGO has confirmed in this report by Gamers.com (fresh and in your face!) and UGO.com that they are also trimming back their outgoing cash to affiliates. Why should you guys care? Because Shugashack is a UGO affiliate.

In what it says is a move to ensure profitability, UGO Networks is renegotiating the contracts it has with its many affiliate sites, which will result in either less money for the affiliates, or possible litigation due to breach of contract.

Yes, we are taking a $ cut here, certainly in no danger of going under. With what UGO has done for Shack in particular probably means more of a profit than before in the near future. Sucks for the short term though.

I still don't get how the vast amounts of websites out there make any money. I never spend money online unless it is for a good deal on cpu parts. Most ad's on the web are just like commercials to me, they do not persuade me to buy anything.

I'm sure someone's already said this, but it bears repeating.

The problem is that if no one buys anything from the ads, the ad companies won't HAVE ads anymore to put on their affiliates.

That's the whole problem.

That's why this shit is going down.

I don't even fucking see banner ads, I didn't realize until this afternoon that practically the only banner that shows up anymore is for Game Pen.

For well-known UGO affiliate ShugaShack.com, it may not be as big of a problem. Despite getting less money, the other incentives UGO is offering is acceptable to Steve Gibson, the site's operator.

BTW: If I get a popup everytime I refresh the comments section, I'm not gonna come here anymore. I love the site, but I don't do popups, esp. w/ the thousands of times I refresh the shack daily
