XBox Video Speed Drop
by Steve Gibson, Jan 04, 2001 6:03am PSTMicrosoft has decided to change the specs on the XBox once again, this time around they drop the speed of the videocard a bit (from 300 to 250) and there was also a recent change of the CPU speed:
The honest truth is that the goal that we always had for the system was 3x the graphical and computational performance of PlayStation 2. Initially, we thought that a 600MHz CPU and a 300MHz GPU was about right. We should hopefully be seeing a bunch more information on the XBox at the upcoming CES event.

I personally can't wait for the GPF screenshots and application errors on this Windows 2000 core, and the various hacks people report once this thing is connected to the net... It should be more embarrassment for MS...

They probably COULD have done that, but thet would have jacked up the retail price of the machine, and then we would hear everyone cry about it being too expensive.

Read up on their explination: Dvd people don't like using the controller for movies (like the PS2). Gamers don't want to be bothered by Dvd movies since it is a gaming box. Therefore, lets have the best of both worlds and sell the remote as an extra to "enhance" the experience in some magical, mystical way.
You would be a moron if you buy this mainly for the DVD capacity. Just buy a DVD player or hook up your computer to your TV.

Despite that, dont look at the system for its specs, look at the games that will come out. If you like em buy the system. If you don't like the games, don't buy it.
