We do want to remind you that PC Data's numbers, while perhaps the best figures anyone can get outside of cracking open a game company's books, do not cover 100% of the North American market and cover nothing elsewhere in the world. From talking to different publishers, we've been told that when you factor in the world market and niche outlets in North America that PC Data doesn't cover, you can double PC Data's figures to get a good rule of thumb idea of actual sales. So think of the numbers we present as more of a weathervane than a precise data point.

I remember seeing something somewhat official that Q3 had sold over 400,000 copies quite a while back (like nearly a year ago) so this is probably pretty true. I don't know if that 400,000 was worldwide or just ALL of north america or what though.

I only bring it up because I read the list first and a lot of the numbers seemed really low to me. Q3 is the only example that I could remember a number for though.

Looking forward to the flame war this article will generate though. I'll be sure to check back tonight. :)

I remember one company said that pc data said their game only sold 3000 copies when it had sold over 100,000. So their numbers could easily be wrong.
