You young pups. I still remember when me and my gray haired buddies used to LAN doom using IPX protocol. 4 player DM, dwango wads!! Those were the days! Fucking dark ages, we used to play head-to-head and co-op by directly calling each other with modems. At least that way there was no net congestion to lag our games.

Multiplayer Entertainment BBS was the bomb for dm, so long as you lived in the Hampton Roads area. Tons of Doom, and then Duke3d when that demo came out. Man, that was fun.

Let's see...I entered the scene around the time of Kali and Quakespy, but after DWANGO. I remember I first tried playing Q1 on Kali, and when that was slow as ass, I went to Mplayer. I finally settled on Quakespy...

TEN was free to beta test (as I recall), and when they started charging those of us who were some of the first to sign up got free extensions (kinda fuzzy, my brain can't handle going 5 years back). As soon as they started charging, I was gone.
