Check out stories at MotleyFool , ZDNet (and more) , WallStreetJournal , Forbes , and Brian Hook even. Oh, and here's an audio bit of analysts patting asses.

Nvidia looks to boost its market share with the deal. Thanks to 3dfx's technology and customer base, Nvidia expects to garner between 60 percent and 70 percent of the retail market share for graphics boards. Nvidia also will likely continue 3dfx's Voodoo brand name. Even so, "We haven't completely sorted out all of the brand positioning," Huang said. "Where we could really take advantage of the Voodoo brand...is in the retail market all over the world."

Well... not surprising really. Consolidation in the vid card market was inevitable. Very soon there will only be nVidia and aTi... sux for Matrox and the rest. At least the patents weren't divided between nVidia and aTi... that would only have led to another flurry of lawsuits and litigation.

As for PC gaming? This is great news. As good or better news than the X-box comming out. *( the x-box is a PC in a box) meaning that game developers for the x-box can easily convert x-box games to PC... and even easier now ;) And those developers can make enhanced games for the PC with little extra effort when new graphix cards come out from nVidia..... oh wait.. that might mean that aTi is kinda out in the cold on that front... uh yeah. hehe

aTi better be ready to bang back on the PC card market by the end of next year.. or they may join the nVidia collective.
