NVidia Conference Call Notes
by Maarten Goldstein, Dec 18, 2000 10:57am PSTThe FiringSquad has notes from the Nvidia conference call that just ended. Of course the conference call was about the 3dfx buyout. There's good information there, about continuation of the Quantum3D deal, the 3dfx employees (they are looking at hiring about a 100 people), tech support and a lot more.
- Q: Will you manufacture chips for Quantum3D if you run out of inventory?
A: If demand is really high, we would likely find a way to supply the chips.
- Q: Does NVIDIA plan on using 3dfx's SLI technology?
A: It is of interest, but we do not comment on unannounced products. We're pretty confident with our single chip solutions but we'll move forward with SLI if it makes sense. ...

I can only imagine.
"THANK GOD 3DFX IS GOING DOWN FOR THE COUNT!!!"
I at the begining was a big 3Dfx user, but lets face it nVidia has always been the better choice. Their graphics have always been crisper, cleaner and brighter than anything prior to the last generation of 3dfx cards.
I can say I am glad to see 3dfx hittin the bricks.
Lets hope that nVidia can make use of 3dfx's SLI Cable. Can you imagine sli cabling two Geforce2 64mb cards together, that would be insane. Q3TA would probably never ever hickup on that setup. LOL

Interesting read from an investors point of veiw. If hes right it looks like we will be seeing more of 3dfx in the future, maybe not the same one we know today. 3dfx has something up their sleeve though..
The site may say its down, only because its busy. keep trying

1. 3DFX is going bye bye. Since Nvidia managed to dumped all support responsiblities on the dying corpse, all current owners of 3DFX based cards got shafted. No future support
2. If anyone is insaine enough to want to use 3DFX chips, Nvidia is more than willing to sell them to them. Not that anyone will want to because of point 1, that company will end up doing way more support than it has to.
3. All unannouced Nvidia products will stay unannouced for a much greater length of time. When they do come out, they will cost more. ATI isn't exactly in a hurry to release a Geforce2 GTS Ultra killer product anytime soon. Lets face it, we are stuck with the current generation until next fall.

"OMG, management's ordering a switch to decaf!"
so in other words this means "we were wrong when we said sli was a cheap hack but buying 3dfx enables us to use sli and not be a hypocrite"
