I'm sure a guy with an ego as large as Steed's seeks out and reads little news items like this. So fuck you Steed! Fuck you for being an ass and badmouthing us, the people who pay your bills. Have fun making cheesey assed games for web browsers. Woooohoooooooooooo!

Ok, here's the slapdown. The conventional wisdom is that Steed sucks, he's washed up, you leave id and you're nobody, etc. etc.

Heh, not so, me wee buckos. id is the place looking a bit pale right now: an engine house that's floundering to produce content that anyone will play, getting its ass kicked serverwise by CS, a game that is a mod to a spinoff of its 5-year old Quake technolgy. The place has hemmorhaged all its best talent save Carmack, and even he has to resort to outvoting his two co-owners to get them to make a game....which is a rehash in itself.

Steed was the last colorful personality at id, and the best modeller it ever had. He's got the chops to succeed anywhere -- even at a dubious yet possibly promising web-based game company. id, on the other hand...

Well, look at it like this. Suppose, in an alternate universe, all the Beatles except John Lennon died....and the dead ones were replaced with members of N'synch.

That's id today.

I just read the first line and I already see a bo-bo:
Paul Steed has worked on many games in the industry, including Origin's Strike Commander series.

Strike Commander was one game, it wasn't a series you dumb fucks. God damn who do they hire in those places.
