The promised American McGee interview is now available at Well-Rounded Entertainment. It has some more info about Alice: The Movie, as well as his next two projects. One of them will be a PS2 game, but he also wants to do another PC game using the Doom3 engine.

McGee, who's close friends with John Carmack, has seen the engine at work and calls it a "quantum leap" in gaming engines.
"What blows me away is the lighting architecture," he says. "The light is real. It's like watching a movie with the sound off, then - whoa! - turning on Dolby 5-channel."

The game Alice should now be out in stores everywhere by the way. If you liked the demo, expect the same quality from the full version (what I've seen so far anyway).

Dolby 5-channel? He's obviously not listening to films with a subwoofer. Digital sources (DD, DTS, et al) have a dedicated subwoofer channel-- hence the .1 after the 5 or 6. Someone get this guy a sub!

On a related note, the DTS ES mix on Gladiator overloaded my amp last week. Sweet...

Also, Doom 3 is cool. There, still on topic. :)

I hope more game devs incorporate their own verions of Raven's GHOUL and ICARUS proprietary technologies. Linear progression stinks as bad as a week-old balogna sandwich, and having bolt-ons simply rocks. Raven pulled ahead with those gems.

If Carmack adds some of that to the Doom3 engine, and the ability to toggle violence, like whether or not to have guts pop out, instead of a spray of red, and have the menu accessable while playing the game, now that would be tasty.
