Todd Hollenshead Interview

Stomped has a new interview with Todd Hollenshead, asking the CEO of id Software about the upcoming Team Arena pack for Quake3 and a few other things. There's questions on the release date, why they created their own mission pack, the positive response to the demo (hehe except on the comments board here), Todd's opinion on the other Quake3 engine games and more.

Stomped: At the moment, how many new levels will be included in the mission pack when it is released and how many of the much anticipated terrain maps will be included?
Hollenshead: I don't want to give away every detail, so let me just say there will be more than 12 brand new levels, plus the 4 original CTF maps for Q3A have been reworked and designed for all of the new gametype (including new areas, powerups, etc.).

  • Stomped: The response to the demo has been overwhelmingly positive.

LOL! Suuuuuuuure it has been, baby.

Stomped: Has there been any thoughts on id sponsoring a Q3A commercial mod pack, similar to Quake II: Extremities?

Hollenshead: We'll have to see. I don't know that we would be interested in doing another pack just like Extremities due to the logistics involved in working with so many teams scattered literally all over the world. We might do something a bit different, however.

Now that's the ticket! Time for id to promote and host custom levels. Christ, it's such a win-win proposition, how has it taken them so long to see this? (Answer: sell Q3TA first, while there's still a commercial market for id Q3 levels, then step up and do the "community" thing and show the masses the really sweet stuff.)
