.22 micron NV10 in Production
by Marcus Yam, Aug 22, 1999 1:47pm PDTTaeJKim's been sending word out that Tiger Investor had the opportunity to speak with nVidia (doing well in the stocks), and of course have an article about the company, a .22 micron process instead of .18 for the time being, and the NV10 being in production! Big clip, but all spicy!
Is NV10 a chip or chipset? To my surprise Derek Perez answered that it was indeed a single chip. This is important because NVIDIA made a special press release saying that they would have on-chip geometry before the end of the year. Clearly you can still be "on-chip" if you are using a chipset but that definitely would be a prevarication on NVIDIAs part. This is indeed quite an accomplishment to combine a minimum TNT2 level of performance and geometry on the same chip. I also questioned Chris Hoberg about their fab process and she informed me that NVIDIA wont be utilizing .18 micron this year, and that .18 micron will be used for another product in first quarter next year. This is very contrary to almost every NV10 preview on the net that was doing more speculation that actual fact finding. NVIDIAs most advanced process right now is .22 micron. Since NV10 is now in production this is undoubtedly the process they are using. Also of note is the fact their CEO mentioned in the quarterly conference call that there will be two product announcements coming soon. Obviously one is the NV10. Im curious as to what else NVIDIA has up their sleeve.

It\'s funny how they ask him if there is one aspect of Voodoo3 that\'s better than TNT2. He says TNT2 is better in every way. I can think of one aspect: price.
But for every technical aspect, I agree. Can\'t wait to see NV10, I just hope that 3dfx announces their thing too so I can make an informed choice.
What the hell is that thing gonna do?

simple enough? =]
