Warcraft3 & Night Elves
by Steve Gibson, Dec 04, 2000 7:46pm PSTJust a quick mention of an update from Blizzard releasing a couple more screenshots of Warcraft3. These are the first screenshots showing off the '5th race' mentioned a few days ago, as they are called, the Night Elves. I've added the shots to the index Thanks Warcraftiii.net

I don't see why Blizzard should risk displeasing their legion of fans just to try something new in the hopes that they'll pick up the 1 or 2 RTS fans that didn't buy Starcraft.
On the other hand, I suppose if a Blizzard game sells poorly, they might try something different. What're the chances of that though? Diablo2 sold extremely well and it had less innovation over Diablo1 than any of the 'Craft games have had over the previous title.
I'll buy Blizzard RTS games as long as they continue to keep their high amount of depth and appeal to the hardcore and casual gamer. The strategy is a little more arcadey than RTSs that focus more on unit formations and troup groupings than technology and resource management, but like I said, if that's your type of RTS, play it. If not, play a different one. Duh.

If you're playing on lower speeds, this isn't really an issue, but people on the net tend to force the highest speeds, which effects the overall quality of the game.

#50, I doubt you'll find too many people that've been more supportive of id than I have. All their games have the same underlying formula. If you like it, buy their games. If not, find somebody else's to buy, but don't complain when they refuse to break a formula that continues to sell hundreds of thousands of copies of games made by an extremely small group of people.

But hey, then they'd have to pay royalties to TSR or something.
