Big news for all the Counter-Strike players, an update yesterday afternoon at Counter-Strike.net has word that an official map pack will be released online. Here's the direct word:

we're going to hopefully be putting out a map-pack for those of you who don't have all the CS maps. A few had to be left out due to complications in the retail process. We'll update with more info as soon as we finalize the pack.
Thats the cue to badger me with requests for the Shack CS server to come back online. I'll take another crack at it soon, not sure what busted and we all know how easy to use Linux is.

  • Oh, fuck me up my DSL line! I just downloaded the full CounterStrike1.0 a few days ago, for the first time. I have never played CounterStrike, and I have owned halflife for what, over 2 years, I guess. I always wanted to pick it up and play it, but I knew it would be a big change from the Quake style gameplay that I know and love (yet it is growing stale).

That is the problem. I am not a teenager anymore. I have stuff to do besides have fun ;-) So I have trouble diving into new games because I don't have the time it takes to learn a new game. Its not that I am dumb, or that I think that CounterStrike is a complex game. It comes down to the following situation:

    1.) Get back from class/work/whatever
2.) Do chores around the apartment
3.) Have an hour to play before I need to get to sleep

    Now, do I:
    a) Play a game I already know?
    b) Spend the time to learn a new game like CounterStrike?

If I play a game that I already know, I will instantly start having fun, and because I have limited time for fun and because I am spent from a long days work, I want to maximize my fun.

If I choose to learn a new game like CounterStrike, that means that I most likely will spend my entire hour of free time doing yet more work: learning a new game!

So I procrastinate. I know that if I learned CounterStrike now, it would pay off in the long run, but like most humans, I want my cake NOW!

With the rapid development of these fan made games, its a complete moving target... one that I am having trouble hitting.

  • I don't have a problem with Halfstats. It's not too much of a stats whore type calculation.

I DO have a problem with CLQ. CLQ is completely FUCKED up.

People who want to stats whore can do it with CLQ, even if you don't run stats because CLQ always parses whether you like it or not. I suppose Steve could block TheCLQ's IP with a firewall, but... Adding Halfstats isn't going to change things, really. People who stats whore stats whore.

No offense, but Shugashack was <will be> full of newbies anyway. If you want a good team game, find a clan server like MercsHideout or MourningAfter.
