The Assault pack is a good thing, and frankly, I think its about time. I'd like to Epic maybe release and promote a retail expansion pack for UT, perhaps like in the middle of next year before they move on to their next incarnation of the engine project.

Mod teams releasing retail products, however... that's lame. This is the first time I've heard of the assassination mod, and quite frankly i'm not even interested in d/l'ing what I saw for free, let alone going out to the store and paying for it. Yeah, that's right fellas, do us all a favor and share your precious Rainbow 6/Counterstrike rehash original modification for Unreal with all of us through our local retailer!

what's weird is that on that assissination page they say the bad news is that they aren't making it for UT anymore but the good news is they are going retail so everybody can enjoy it. the problem is this: i might've downloaded it as a free mod and played it, but i'm more than likely not gonna buy it, so there is actually less chance by them going retail i will play their mod. i will never buy a promod game when there is already a free mod like it out there for a game i have already bought.

Its all publishers. They don't have to make much money. I worked for disctronics, they make cd's cdroms and dvd's, and let me tell you it doesn't take much to make them. Depends on the amount to be made. Usually around 2.00 each. Thats for the actual cd, the case and packaging. Now the booklets and stuff were done somewhere else so I am not sure about the cost but since its just paper I am sure its low. That means they don't have to sell a ton to make money since all that is involved in making a game is pretty much just human work. No special things to buy to make it. Just good ol' human knowledge. Sucks for us because we will see fewer and fewer mods, but good for coders.
