The GameSpot folks were lucky enough to get a look at the full version of Serious Sam recently and have written up a bit about what they saw, although not a whole lot.

  • This game is fun, but i wouldnt call it good or warrant buying it. I might be wrong but i think almost any company around the world could create a game like this if they choose to. It really doesnt take much effort to make "cool guns" and chuck in lots of monsters.

But saying that i dont mean you should only buy games that were difficult or challenging to create, but croteam seem to have been put on some game god like level when all they've done is apply the doom formula to a new engine.

The engine is the best part of the game, but the design and the setting are trully awful of mario 64 proportions.

  • It's a switch from the normal game play of today - Half-life wanna be's. Half-life is a good game but gets annoying at times; Opfor seemed to dwell on "move box from this spot, to that spot, jump open door, move box again." That got old.

if it has a plot that's all well and good. I'm going to say "I understand" if it doesn't; this is the first game to come from a previous behind the Iron Curtain country.

Everything has to be enjoyed on different levels. And hey, for $20, why the hell not? I'll betcha Doom 3 costs $60 when it comes out...
