Some more chunks of info about Verant's massive multiplayer online action game PlanetSide have turned up at GameCenter. There is some character advancement in this FPS, so a few RPG elements remain.

  • This is basicly a FPS, ones reflexes will partialy determine how one does. Therefore lag becomes a factor.

    When you have alot of mini-servers with at max 32 people connected, lag is a minimal factor. When you have one main server or facility as the playing area, lag becomes a bigger issue. So big that you might as well forget about playing.

    An example of this is Battle.net, and the lag for Diablo2 is much greater one the weekend when lots of people are playing than a weekday. People who play hardcore, me included, avoid playing at times they know there will be a lag.

    Planetside will be worse off. Diablo2 is a different sort of game. Basicly a 2d game. Planetside is a 3d one and sends more information to the client. And its games are limited to 8 people.

    Remember, current games have ~32-50 people as a limit per server. Planetscape will have 5000.
