Marvel Powers United VR Gets Villainous With Venom & Ultron

The roster of villains grows to four, but there are more on the way.

Up until now, the revealed characters for Marvel Powers United VR have mostly been heroes. We can throw an asterisk next to Deadpool's name, of course. Today, things shift in a big way with two heavy-hitting new additions: Venom and Ultron. These two join Loki and Ronan the Accuser. The new character descriptions from the press release are as follows:

  • Venom: The creature known as Venom is the convergence of two beings who share a fierce hatred of Spider-Man: disgruntled journalist Eddie Brock, and a spurned alien symbiote. Bonded and fused at the molecular level, Venom possesses incredible new strength and abilities as well as knowledge of Spider-Man’s true identity. He is driven by an insatiable hunger to destroy Spider-Man and those who follow him.
  • Ultron: Though the creation known as Ultron was created with the best of intentions, no one could have predicted that the sentient robot would rebel, becoming a threat to all humanity. After being driven off into the far reaches of the cosmos by the Avengers and their allies, it was believed Ultron had been destroyed. However, his frayed consciousness persisted until he came into contact with a techno-organic alien race which assisted him in unifying his fragmented consciousness back into focus and into a new upgraded body. Ultron has targeted Earth and its mighty heroes once again, but this time he is coming prepared with new powers, abilities and strong allies.

Venom is a pretty popular Spider-Man villain that's actually headed to the big screen with an adaptation led by Tom Hardy (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises). Ultron, on the other hand, had his big screen moment in the Avengers: Age of Ultron and was voiced by the legendary James Spader (Boston Legal, Blacklist).

The rest of the revealed characters includes the recently announced Black Panther, Rocket Raccoon, Deadpool, Captain Marvel, Hulk, Crystal, Blackbolt, and Thor. The Oculus exclusive Marvel Powers United VR game is set for a July 26, 2018, launch and is available for pre-order right now. Leading up to the launch, more heroes and villains will be revealed, so stay tuned to Shacknews for more updates.
