E3 2018: Koji Igarashi Talks Everything Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

The spiritual successor to Symphony of the Night looks just as fantastic as ever.

Executive Producer and game creator Koji Igarashi came by the Shacknews E3 2018 booth to discuss his upcoming title Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Considered a spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Bloodstained originally began live as a Kickstarter campaign, and after successfully raising more than $5.5 million from backers, it quickly became the most funded game crowdfunding campaign on the platform up until Shenmue III beat it out.

Bloodstained: Symphony of the Night is scheduled for a 2018 release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS Vita.

The gameplay and music felt spot-on in what I played, but I can't say I care for the visual style of the backgrounds.

I'd like to see them try shading them pretty aggressively, possibly with depth cues to make the actual foreground plane more apparent.

I actually like the enemy and player character looks, it really is just the backgrounds I think need some work.

Also, was there an issue in the editing process for this video? It's a 1080p stream but clearly had a much lower resolution at some point.

Saw the Ori 2 interview http://www.shacknews.com/chatty?id=37625976#item_37625976 gonna watch this Bloodstained thing next, but what about Guacamelee! 2?

Was that even at E3 this year? I haven't seen a damn thing about it this week. Did they skip the show because it's close to coming out and it would have been a waste?

We’re just relieved he didn’t say “Resident Evil.”

Ha! A gaffe on my part. This interview took place near the end of day 3–our sixth day in LA, factoring in press conferences and prep work for interviews—and I was exhausted! I was also pulled into the interview from a break to help wrap it up for various reasons. I think that was my only on-air slip, though!

The interview I did immediately following this one was with the folks at Remedy. It was our final interview of the show, and Remedy’s last stop as well. We agreed to open the segment by pretending we had passed out from exhaustion. None of us were pretending.
