E3 2018: Gamecube Controller and Extensive Amiibo Support Coming to Super Smash Bros: Ultimate

Smash your foes with the one true controller!

During the Nintendo Direct presentation this morning, the wraps were officially taken off of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Nearly twenty minutes of the presentation were dedicated to revealing the impressive roster and detailing the changes and additions to each fighter. After covering new or adjusted mechanics, Nintendo made sure to excite series fans by announcing that Gamecube controller support would be included in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The company also announced that all Smash Bros. Amiibos and any Amiibos featuring a selectable character would be supported by the game.

Similar to how Nintendo manufactured new Gamecube controllers for the WiiU version of Smash brothers, the company will be offering Smash-branded controllers for the release of Ultimate. Nintendo quietly telegraphed this move last year when a Switch firmware update added Gamecube controller support back in October. The Gamecube controller USB adapter will be required and will likely be made available at retail ahead of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s release on December 7 his year.

In other big Super Smash Bros. news, it was confirmed during the Nintendo Direct presentation that Ridley would be joining the cast of fighters on the Switch Smash Bros. debut

I liked my GameCube but don't think it's controller was anything great. The shoulder buttons annoyed me

mostly because of the analog shoulder buttons and having 0 extra buttons.

honestly, the analog function on the shoulders doesnt do anything anymore.

it's just the best (or was) the best standard controller for smashing. there are other options now i think. like the pro controller, etc. but the smash controller was OG, so that's what people are used to.

              and it's great!

Those shoulder buttons were great for 15 years old me. I liked how every stick and button had a unique feel and placement. To me at least it was extremely intuitive and comfortable.

I'm going to try to finally switch to the Pro controller for Smash this time. Dealing with the adapter is too much a pain in the ass.
