If you played a character in a past Super Smash Bros. game, they are in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Super Smash Bros. lead Masahiro Sakurai popped up during Tuesday's Nintendo Direct to reveal the first of the new fighters for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Nintedo Switch.

Many of the familiar cast members were announced to return. They include everyone from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, including DLC characters Ryu, Cloud, Mewtwo, and Bayonetta.

But everyone is here! That includes returning fighters from the series' past, including the Ice Climbers, Young Link, Wolf, and very surprisingly, Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series. Now called Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the tagline is that everyone is here! It's every fighter in the series, with some characters even containing Echo Fighters, which are basically alternate character skins, like Daisy in place of Peach.

One thing to note is that online play won't be available from the get-go. It will be added after launch.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set to release on Nintendo Switch later this year. (Update: We have a release date!)

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
