E3 2018: Bethesda Confirms Fallout 76 is Entirely Online

Looks like you'll never have to explore the Wasteland alone again.

Today, Bethesda confirmed that Fallout 76 will in fact be an online title, filled entirely with other players. If you were hoping for a different outcome this E3, you might end up being a little disappointed, as Bethesda has confirmed that things will play out in an alternate way with the latest addition to the Fallout series. You're going to have to play online, but that doesn't mean it's going to be an MMO. It's going to be, as Bethesda has described it, a "softcore survival game."

One of the coolest parts about taking the game online, however, is the fact that you can interact with other people while still playing solo. A unique part of the game revolves around the fact that you can actually raid nuclear arms bases for nukes with which you can destroy others' bases. You need the codes to do it with, but once you've got all that, you're totally gravy. It seems wild and insane, especially if you're ever going to have to be on the receiving end.

We didn't get as hefty of a look at Fallout 76 as we were hoping for initially, but this information dump was enough to remind us that this is really a new and interesting direction for the series, and hopefully it doesn't let us down.

The game will indeed have a beta, known as the "Break It Early Test Application," though it wasn't announced just yet when we'll be able to get our grubby little paws on it. We'll make sure you know exactly when you can jump in as soon as that information is announced, however, so keep checking back at Shacknews for additional information as it rolls out.
