An update for Star Wars Battlefront 2 wasn’t high on anyone’s list for big E3 2018 reveals, but the game had a moment in the spotlight at EA Play. Acknowledging the missteps with progression and loot boxes when it launched, a developer outlined the near future for the troubled game.

For those that are still invested in Star Wars Battlefront 2, a Clone Wars era update will be bringing a few long-requested heroes to the game. Expect to see Count Dooku, Obi Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and General Grievous, as well as the new Geonosis area to play and explore.

Players won't have to wait until the fall for new content, though, as DICE was quick to outline what to expect in the months leading to the Clone Wars content.

Coming in July is a new Starfighter mode focused on piloting Hero ships. We’re pleased with the positive response we had on this season’s Hero Showdown, and believe players will appreciate this similar, more focused, approach to Hero Starfighter battles. Here, players will spawn as one of the available Hero Starfighters on their respective sides. If taken out, you’ll re-enter the game as a normal fighter, bomber, or interceptor. To win the game, your team of four needs to take out all enemy Hero Starfighters. And later this year, we’ll introduce a non-linear, larger-scale mode where players battle for control of objectives around the map. We’re also bringing changes to how squads will work, including spawning on squad mates.

Even with new content on the way and lessons learned from past mistakes, it feels like Star Wars Battlefront 2 has a long way to go before fans will be ready to meet announcements with the same hype as other EA Play reveals, such as Unravel 2.
