Overwatch Patch 1.24.0.1 Begins Anniversary, Nerfs Brigitte A Little More

The Overwatch Anniversary event has begun, but there are a few changes to be aware of first.

The Overwatch Anniversary has begun. There are copious amounts of new skins out there, along with a new Free-For-All Deathmatch map, for those who balk at concepts like "teamwork" and "togetherness."

But Tuesday's patch also includes a few reworks for some of the game's heroes, including even more nerfs for the newest one. These changes originally debuted on the PTR earlier this month and are now making their way across the rest of the game. According to the Overwatch forums, players can look forward to some further adjustments for Brigitte, along with a couple of buffs for Ana and a noteworthy nerf for Hanzo.

Brigitte

  • Rally: Maximum armor per player reduced from 150 to 100
  • Shield Bash: Cooldown increased from 5 to 6 seconds

Brigitte's nerfs pile on to the big one introduced during the May 3 Rialto patch. That patch reduced the cone angle of her Shield Bash. Now her Shield Bash has a longer cooldown to go along with that. Also, the maximum armor from her Rally further brings her down to the level of other heroes while keeping it relatively useful.

Ana

  • Biotic Rifle
    • Projectiles will now pass through allies with full health
    • Ammo increased from 10 to 14

Ana's changes are pretty interesting, because they open the door to some sick trick shots. If a skilled Ana player can spot a teammate that needs a hand, there's a chance to plan a shot that goes through a fully-healed teammate and reaches the teammate in need. More novice heroes can also try and rapid fire their way to healing everyone, since Ana now has some additional ammo available.

Hanzo

  • Storm Arrows: Damage reduced from 80 to 70

Hanzo's recent rework left him a little too powerful. Fortunately, Blizzard has recognized the overwhelming power of his new Storm Arrows. The Overwatch team has taken Hanzo's other changes into account and scaled back the damage of these powerful new weapons.

Overwatch's 1.24.0.1 patch is available now across all platforms.

But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

have they ever released a new hero that wasn't op and had to be nerfed? Sombra is the only one I recall.

They actually do that on purpose. They will lean design decisions towards the op side, so that people will play and enjoy the new character instead of making it weak where everyone hates it.

The general design philosophy is that it's better to release something OP than to release something boring.

i think also things can seem OP because people havent learned to counter it yet. easier to learn a new character and go balls to the wall, then it is to figure out counters and appropriate teamwork counterstrats, etc, etc

The really interesting part of this patch is that you can now go back and buy seasonal items that you may have missed in the past.

I don't think I've played a round of OW in well over a year but it still feels good to be able to log in and finally buy all those tracer unlocks that I missed and get her back to nearly 100% (fuck you WoW pre-order items).

I haven't played Overwatch since the second season but it still makes me happy that it is well supported and apparently still overflowing with players.

Note that just by logging in during the event you get a gold lootbox with a guaranteed legendary.

I got Pimpfist (aka the best skin of the event) and a dorky Hanzo legendary in mine.

I got a two year old Bastion skin and I don't even play him. :(

Why waste money on costumes you won't use?

A few modes now have a drop down where you can select a skin during selection. Its awesome.

i liked the previous way, where you could buy past seasonal items during the current season, and at the normal rate.

I try to play this game with my son but we get crushed like 90% of the time. I just don't get it. How does a game with this big of a player base not figure out balanced teams?
