No Borderlands 3 at E3 2018, According to Gearbox

Gearbox announced that there will be no Borderlands presence at E3 to a group of journalists earlier today.

Shackers have been dying to see or hear anything about Borderlands 3 for years, and sadly they will have to wait longer than E3 2018. A representative from Gearbox Software announced to a room of journalists earlier today that there will be no Borderlands presence at E3 whatsoever. Gearbox Software will have other titles to show off to gamers during the conference next month.

This seemingly counters the Walmart Canada leaks that surfaced last week about Borderlands 3 being at E3. We can only hope that Gearbox's "Magic Man" will have something up his sleeve at PAX West later this year, but for now the studio is focused on some other exciting titles. Keep it locked on Shacknews for all of the latest news leading up to E3 2018.

I'm kinda wondering if their design kinda followed Destiny 2 and after seeing the fallout they delayed it.

How dare you ask for more Battleborn. They lost so much money because of the failure of that game. Overwatch just made it irrelevant. And Gear box wasted so much time developing that game when they could have been in full force making Borderlands 3. But here we are waiting because of that stupid game...

Battleborn had some rather interesting ideas (in-mission leveling system more like a MOBA, the meta-game loot system that fed the BLands niche), but it had next to no narrative to make you want to be invested in any hero character.

So when Overwatch came out - which had carefully crafted a narrative and put love and care into making nearly every character relateable to players - it clearly ate BB's lunch. I will give created to Gearbox and Randy Pitchford: they knew well enough in advance of OW's overlap with BB's launch, but decided to stay to their schedule rather than delay the game. They probably would have lost more money if they waited.

I disagree. I liked the narrative for the characters. I think the issue was more the number of characters so you couldn't have narrative quite like Borderlands and the MOBA play style they were balanced around due to MP.

I like the game a lot, but I don't think they or anyone else will make the mistake of trying an FPS MOBA again any time soon. Sorry Haxim.

It's a fantastic game that had unfortunate timing. I play it regularly as nothing really scratches the itch similarly. It's essentially F2P now but I do wish they sold digital codes as I'd love to do a giveaway here and get some interest going.

Agree, but ... sadly, they tried something different and lost. It is hardly worth defending it around here any more as I have become a meme for liking it.

That's a shame, but at least this way we don't have to hear claptrap screaming I'M PIIIICKLLLE RIIIIIIIIIIICK during a conference.

Nintendo will sell--and is selling--classic games on Switch, just not under the "Virtual Console" brand. I'm willing to bet that ways to download Mario 3 and other classics will be revealed at E3, or later this fall as we get closer to the launch of Nintendo Network or whatever they're calling it.

So the Canadian Walmart leak so far is:

      Correct:
      Rage

      Incorrect:
      Borderlands 3

Well, the Walmart thing didn't say the games would at E3 right? Just that they are games that exist in development

You are 100% right, but everyone kind of knew Bordelands 3 already existed and took the walmart listing as "Games at e3" leak.
