Microsoft Expands Gifting Options In Digital Store

Forget gift cards. This is where it's at.

The long-requested gifting feature for Xbox One and PC gamers arrived back in November, but now Microsoft has opened it up further to be a more useful and functional experience. Now, you can use it with all Xbox One games, PC titles, and DLC expansions. That should make it a lot easier to build a full Sea of Thieves crew, for one thing, and now you can be a lot lazier with the gift-giving. It's a win-win!

The ability to gift games to others was originally part of a rollout that happened to Xbox Insiders last summer, but it was given to everyone else with a full reveal in November. Unfortunately, you were limited to a certain amount of game types you could give others. Now, the expanded gifting program includes PC titles from the Windows Store, Xbox One games, and DLC to boot. You just can't send over currency or anything like that. Just games and expansion for in-game content here.

You still aren't able to redeem Xbox 360 games or original Xbox games, but you've got plenty to choose from should you want a simple gift-giving experience with one of your game-loving friends. With State of Decay 2 on the horizon, this is great timing -- and lots of folks' birthdays are coming up (like yours truly) so keep this in mind for an alternative present you can excite your friends with.
