H1Z1 Joins the Battle Royale Masses on PlayStation 4

A new battle royale challenger is about to appear on PS4.

It wasn't that long ago that H1Z1 came out of Steam Early Access. But with the full version of the game now on PC, Daybreak Games is looking over to the PlayStation 4 for the battle royale game's next destination.

While H1Z1 will officially make the jump to PS4, it won't be exactly the same as its PC counterpart. The PlayStation 4 version has been rebuilt for the console player, with a refined inventory management system and a new weapon wheel suited for analog controls. The crafting system has also been scrapped to help streamline the overall experience.

H1Z1's main elements, however, will remain in place. That means starting off with bottom-tier weapons and then heading on over, either on foot or in a vehicle, to the nearest airdrop site and competing for better weaponry. New weapons are also finding their way into these airdrops, including the KH43, Marauder, Combat Shotgun, CNQ-09, Scout Rifle, and MK46.

PS4 players can opt to get in on the Closed Beta, set to begin in the next week or so, by visiting the H1Z1 website. Those who are a little more okay with waiting a few weeks can get in on the Open Beta, which is set to begin on May 22. A special bundle is also available from now through the start of the open beta with a handful of cosmetic items going for $29.99.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
