If you're interested in embarking on an adventure with The Witcher series' Geralt of Rivia but haven't played a minute of any of the games, you're in luck. Today, GOG has The Witcher: Enhanced Edition up for grabs on PC for free. That means you can get started playing through the three-game franchise right now without having to pay a cent.

The Witcher follows Geralt, a professional monster hunter (essentially) as he makes his way throughout the land completing jobs for others, falling in love, and bathing as you've probably seen in the past. There's a swirling and complex story to go along with Geralt simply being a badass, but that's all for you to discover once you start playing. You can get The Witcher: Enhanced Edition for free and get up to date on everything you need to know about the games before the Netflix series debuts this way, spending a minimal amount of money to make all the games yours.

This particular version of the game features updated mechanics and graphics as well as a mod editor called D'jinni that lets you create or modify your own adventures as you make your way throughout the world of The Witcher. There's also two additional quests you can undertake from CD Projekt RED, where Geralt's return to Kaer Morhen plays out, and another focuses on Geralt's friend Dandelion.

You can pick up the game here for free via GOG. It's certainly worth it, especially if this is your first introduction to the games.

Some missing instructions from a Reddit link:
"Before clicking the link, please ensure that the following has been done:

Download Gwent game in GOG (it's free!)
        Register/link your GOG account @ https://playgwent.com/en

Then you can subscribe and claim a card pack and the game @ https://www.gog.com/gwent-welcome-bonus

EDIT: Just as others have pointed out, you don't need to download Gwent completely in order to get the game. Just need to make sure that you have your GOG account linked/registered @ Gwent's official website, https://playgwent.com/en. "

Can't help ya there, I balked at having to remember my GOG password. I have W1 on Steam so it's not a big deal to skip the GOG version.

Not a problem, just another case of “OOH FREE GAME... oh, I already bought it”.

Another example: Satellite Reign for free. I backed it at £60 and still haven’t played it. -_-

You should start a free game clearinghouse

Awesome, although this is one of those games where if you’ve had a GOG account for any length of time you probably have a copy of it by accident if nothing else.

Did you know you can collect cards in this game? It's the best mini game.
