The Tech-Report has an interesting article looking at how 'Valve Became King'. They praise Valve for all the work that has gone into supporting the online gameplayers and take a number of jabs at id.

  • "At first glance, the fact Valve is still patching Half-Life years after its release could be seen as a stunning display of bug fixing incompetence, but that isn't the case here."

Yes it bloody well is! Valve still haven't fixed bugs in the Half-Life engine which were reported about a week after it was released and are still listed on the Half-Life bug page, wherever it is. Stuff like the sound going and never coming back (without exiting multipler) if you switch to the desktop, or the sound channels swapping over after using the menus. God dammit!

(Unless the most recent patch has *finally* fixed this, which there was no mention of in the readme file. I've not been able to play online games for the past month and a half so haven't tried it.)
