Still yearning for the Virtual Console you've been clamoring for since the Nintendo Switch was announced? Keep yearning, because it looks like we're getting something else in place of the Virtual Console, at least in terms of a few upcoming Sega titles. Sega is bringing a host of Sega arcade classics to the Switch with the Sega Ages franchise, including games like Sonic the Hedgehog and Phantasy Star. We already knew those titles were coming thanks to an announcement over the weekend during Sega Fes 2018, but now Sega has announced two additional games to be added to the line: Alex Kidd in Miracle World and Gain Ground.

This news tidbit means that currently, there are Sega Master System versions of Phantasy Star and Alex Kidd in Miracle World, the Sega Genesis versions of Thunder Force IV and Sonic the Hedgehog, and a port of the original arcade version of Gain Ground confirmed for when the series of retro titles launches this summer.

Unfortunately, it's not clear just yet how the tiles will be released, whether they'll be digital-only options, or if they'll all be available in one package at some point or another. It's great to see Sega systems getting so much love, especially on the Switch, but we've still got so many questions about what all the series will entail. Hopefully all will be made clear soon. Here's something we do know, though. Sega Ages is a palindrome and reads the same if you start at the beginning or end. That's gotta be a sign for something, right?
