Old Q3Test Maps Compared

Firingsquad has posted a set of comparison shots from the pre-release version of Q3Test 1 & 2 maps, and the current ones of today. The older "development" ones have more of and old-school Quake flavor, ya?

  • Too often, though, creativity in terms of visual appeal gets in the way of good level design. I mean, look at q2dm1. Most boring DM map I\'ve ever seen...it was \'neat\' for about ten minuts. But its still the most kickass Quake 2 level I\'ve played. Then you get gimmicky user-made levels and they play like crap (not all, but most)

    In any case, Q3Test2 was about as different as you could ask for, when Q3Test first came out, though it didn\'t look much different...

    And Q1 had plenty of verticle maps (dm4, dm5, dm6...). Quake 2 leaned more towards realism, but Quake 3 moving towards Q1 again, so I think we\'ll see a happy medium...
