Transmeta & AMD & Microsoft

According to The Register, Transmeta is working together with AMD and Microsoft to get AMD's Sledgehammer (their upcoming 64-bit CPU) supported in upcoming Microsoft products. Supposedly AMD's own x86-64 simulator was too poor for Microsoft, and so AMD contacted Transmeta to have them write a better simulator. Transmeta uses software to morph standard x86 code to their own VLIW Crusoe format, and they whipped up a modified version for AMD and Microsoft to use. The story then goes on that Microsoft is interested in working with Transmeta for Tablet computers, and even possibly the Xbox. This is The Register though, remember that heh. Transmeta meanwhile actually had a successful IPO, which isn't too common lately. Following IBM though, Compaq has announced it's not releasing any Crusoe powered notebooks, waiting for low-power Pentium3 processors instead.
