State of Decay 2's Price Dropped To $29.99, Release Date Revealed

State of Decay 2, which made it onto a couple of our Most Anticipated 2018 Games lists, is the sequel to one of the unexpected hit zombie titles to come from the last generation and fans have been eagerly awaiting the official release date. Microsoft revealed today that not only will the game be launching on May 22, 2018, it will have a lower price point of $29.99 and it will be available on the Game Pass subscription service at launch.

We previously reported on a rumor that Amazon leaked the release date for State of Decay 2. The leak set it on May 25, which is only a couple days off.

IGN revealed the official release date, including a statement from Microsoft GM of Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg on the subject of the lower price. "Our goal is to build a long-term relationship with the State of Decay community and to foster deeper experiences with the franchise," he says. "We believe State of Decay 2 accomplishes this goal by immersing fans in the ultimate zombie survival fantasy, and we want to give more players the opportunity to join in and experience this unique game.”

The game will also come in an Ultimate Edition, which includes early access to State of Decay 2 on May 17, a free copy of the Year One Survival Edition of the first State of Decay, and access to the Independence Pack and Daybreak Pack DLCs that will release post-launch. The gameplay teaser on IGN's site showed off some zombie killing, the UI for sifting through your survivors, what looks like a crafting or base mechanic, and driving. The full gameplay reveal will happen tomorrow, March 7, as an exclusive for that publication.
