How to Unlock Ryu Armor

The unlockable Ryu in Monster Hunter World is actually a full set of armor that must be equipped entirely for you to take on the spitting image of the iconic Street Fighter character. Before you can get Ryu, you’re going to need to ensure you have a few things:

  • PlayStation 4
  • Street Fighter V save data
  • Monster Hunter World

That’s right, as of this writing, the Ryu set is only available for PS4 players and only to those with a Street Fighter V save file on their consoles. However, you can team up with someone who has the save file and still receive the benefits, even if you have never played it. The Ryu armor for Monster Hunter World will be available to all players on PS4 and Xbox One at a later date, so if you can’t get it now, you’ll just have to wait. The following quest is best played with a friend, so you best know how to play co-op.

Your next step is to boot up Monster Hunter World and look for the limited Event Quest at the Arena Lass in the Gathering Hub. This area is found at the very top of Astera, and the vendor is at the counter. Look for the quest called “Down the Dark, Muddy Path” under the Challenges section. This quest requires you to hunt a ginormous Barroth in the arena using a limited selection of weapons. Make sure you know how to trap a monster so you can get the maximum rewards from this hunt.

Upon completing this quest, you will receive one SFV Tickets, but you need seven in order to unlock the Ryu armor in Monster Hunter World, so go ahead and launch the quest again. You will need to do this potentially seven times in order to collect enough SFV Tickets.

The Ryu quest is only available for a limited time, starting February 15th and ending March 1st at 4PM PDT. Once the Ryu armor is unlocked, you can equip it and run around pretending to Hadoken monsters. However, if you want to, you can actually purchase the Street Fighter Hadoken gesture or the Street Fighter Shoryuken gesture from the PlayStation Store. Each of these gestures cost $4, and they do a tiny amount of damage, so they have some functionality, though not much. With the gestures in hand, and the armor unlocked, you’ll have everything you need to become Ryu in Monster Hunter World.

Note that while the above mentions February 15 and March 1st, those were the dates when the event first launched. If you're playing after February 2018, you will likely need to check to see if the event is still running.
