EA Confirms New Battlefield Game Coming in 2018

Players should expect to see a new Battlefield title come out around the holiday season.

Electronic Arts has gotten a lot of flak in recent months, what with the disastrous events surrounding Star Wars Battlefront 2 loot boxes and the subsequent drop in sales and social standing that the company suffered. It goes without saying that some higher-ups at EA would eventually have to get together to discuss plans on where they should move forward, and as it turns out, they recently have. Reports indicate that Electronic Arts' next move is to release yet-another Battlefield title later this year, one that should land just in time for the 2018 holiday season.

As reported by Game Informer, this information came through in a conference call held between EA executives Patrick Soderlund, Andrew Wilson, and Black Jorgensen. The three reportedly felt confident with the recent success of the Battlefield series, citing that Battlefield One, the entry that released in October of 2016, went on to become the biggest game in the series. It makes sense: with the sharp decline in Star Wars Battlefront 2's popularity and the delayed release date of upcoming Bioware title Anthem, the company needs a solid hit, and they likely need it sooner rather than later.

The EA crew also spoke on some other company matters, including the status of Respawn's upcoming Star Wars game as well as the impact of games like PUBG and Fortnite. Wilson reportedly stated that "what PUBG has done is change the level of innovation that changes the way people play first-person shooting games." That said, it seems the team doesn't feel like creating a battle royale mode would be a proper fit for Battlefield; instead, the developer will simply take a closer look at how they can innovate in areas like map design and general gameplay.

Just make a fun BF game without all the bullshit. Do that and people will come and play.

I want them to do something. They really haven't innovated core gameplay since Bf3. Behemoths, levolution, etc...sure, but sideshows. But honestly BF1 feels completely uninspired because it is tied to the BF3 pattern.

Whatever they do next they should at least have as much freedom to differentiate themselves as much as Battlefront 2 has been from Battlefront 1. Bare minimum.

          1. Build a game with a solid core that doesn't require loot boxes or unlocks to keep it fresh.
          2. A rock solid party system so my friends and I can play together easy and quickly. Battlelog was GREAT and worked and they removed it..wtf?
          3. "Levelution" was a cute phrase but it was fun to see a map that could change the layout mid game. That idea is still solid and needs to to be enriched.
          4. Quit sucking sniper/aircraft dick, airpower RUINED BF2 and I can't stand snipers ever.
          5. FREE DLC. Rainbow Siege figured it out, don't fracture your player base.

Translation, they don't have the tech and know-how yet and are delivering a safe entry this year.

I'd honestly play the ball tied to a paddle game than a Battlefield game

I read some where that this years battlefield is a bad company game. I doubt it but that could be good.

I think that info was updated to, 'DICE LA is working on BC3, but a new mainline BF from DICE Stockholm will release first.'

        BF1944 go go go

All Dice really needed to do was make BF4 with less lag, bigger squads, and a better chat system. Still, for the life of me,can't understand how no one hasn't ripped off MAG's chat system, which still after going on three years since the servers were shut down,is hands down the best chat system of any shooter ever made.

Also,if BF added some sort of faction based combat, like MAG or Planetside 2,with more of meta game elements,it would completely reinvent the series, and I'm sure, put every other shooter to rest.
