Heroes of the Storm Locks Up Maiev Shadowsong

None of them seem to understand. Maiev isn't locked in the Nexus with them. They're locked in there with HER!

Maiev Shadowsong is a widely recognized figure from World of Warcraft. Then she joined the card-slinging shenanigans of Hearthstone. Now it's time for her to join the Nexus, as she joins the growing roster of Heroes of the Storm.

The Warden enters as a new Assassin character. She comes with the Hero Trait called Vault of the Wardens. This allows Maiev to leap into the air and become invulerable to all hostile effects for 0.75 seconds. As a Passive ability, this grants Maiev 15 Armor. Here are her moves:

  • (Q) Fan of Knives: This will dole out knives in a semi-circle, hitting enemies for 180 damage. Hitting at least two enemy Heroes will reduce its cooldown to 0.5 seconds and refund its Mana cost, potentiallt allowing Maiev to keep coming with repeated damage.
  • (W) Umbral Bind: This allows Maiev to tether herself to her foe and pull them in when they stray too far. Look for this to primarily be used for team attacks, luring in enemies for group beatdowns.
  • (E) Spirit of Vengeance: This is a versatile new move that allows Maiev to send out a shadow, which deals 100 damage to any enemies is passes through and 200 damage to any enemy Heroes. After reaching its destination, the shadow will come back, dealing the same level of damage along the way. Maiev can also cast the spell a second time while the shadow is deployed to teleport to its location, allowing for some quick movement.
  • (R1) Containment Disc: Maiev tosses a glaive at any enemy Hero. If a Hero is hit, Maiev can immediately whammy them for 4 seconds of Time Stop and remove their vision. The glaive can also go off automatically after 6 seconds.
  • (R2) Warden's Cage: Maiev will summon eight Warden Avatars. The Wardens are bombs that go off on contact, sending enemy Heroes into the center of the circle.

No word on when Maiev is set to reach the Nexus, but look for her to hit the Heroes of the Storm Public Test Server soon.

Those who are looking for some more immediate fun should check out this week's Heroes Brawl, which sees teams do battle on Checkpoint: Hanamura. This is an Overwatch-inspired battleground with a distinct characteristic: there's only one lane! Learn more about this Brawl on the Heroes of the Storm website.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?

I've unlocked all my heroes without spending any money. I've gotten some nice epics from chests too. There are only a few things you can't get from chests. And, I think those are mounts.

It can feel like that if you're focused on that. I have like 70k just sitting around. If you do dailies you avg like 500 gold a day, or 3.5k a week. With what you get from matches you can get a new hero about one per month if you play actively. That's not really that bad. (very rough numbers)

Do my daily every day and play pretty often. Got most of my heroes from gold / chest pulls but I've been playing since the alpha

Naw, it's easy to buy heroes with gold gained from the daily quests. Try out the free heroes in the weekly rotation to find out which ones you really like, and don't buy them when they are brand new, because brand new ones are priced highly at 15k. They always drop to 10k after a few months.

I bought a few heroes and skins at the beginning for like €20 in form of a starter pack, but that wasn't really necessary. You get tons of loot for free in this game all of the stuff, besides the heroes themselves, is purely cosmetic. Spending RL currency doesn't give you an advantage.

This game's free to play model is perfect, in my opinion, because you can fully participate* in the game without spending anything, and if you want some of the cool skins immediately, you can get them for a fair price. In Hearthstone, you have to buy really expensive additional card packs if you want a competitive deck, and whether you actually end up getting useful cards is a gamble, so you might spend a lot of money and still end up with crap.

        * OK, I think you need to own 10 heroes to be able to take part in draft and competitive modes, but it doesn't take that long to get enough gold for that.

Heroes drop to 10k after two weeks. Any heroes in the free rotation you don't own always level them to 5 to get the 500 gold reward. Do dailies every day and you'll have a bunch of heroes crazy fast. Wish I could of had every shacker just log in during the 2.0 launch for the mega bundle they gave away for nothing. That's how I got a lot of heroes I didn't want to pay gold for.

I play almost every day and have almost every hero unlocked, mostly through gold. If you play frequently you can easily unlock each hero when they go for 10k. And there are definitely going to be some heroes you don't even want to play so that saves you some gold.

15k for the first two weeks. Been common with every new release

You gotta wait a few weeks and they drop to 10k

Usually when one hero is released, the previous new hero drops to 10k

Love Blaze. Still not quite the abilities I was expecting. I was expecting a melee specialist with nice AE, decent armor, but poor mobility and no escape. Blaze can really dish out the dps, soak dmg, and has an escape. Sooo much fun.

Valla, KT and Abathur. I've been playing since early technical alpha. So, I don't play quite as much as I used to. Hated to give up all three levels I earned.

I wonder what her difficulty rating is. Her kit sounds quite complex, and being able to pull off her jump ability probably requires very good timing. So probably hard, maybe even very hard?

I don't think they really matter. Just like the roles don't really matter now a days in the game. If you dig the character pick them up level them to 5 and find out where they're at in your own skill pool
