Nintendo Announces Nintendo Labo, DIY Kits For Switch
Nintendo is empowering players to put together their own creations with some cardboard and a dream.
After much speculation about what Nintendo could possibly be announcing today, the company has surprised everyone once more with the announcement of Nintendo Labo, a set of DIY kits that can be used in conjunction with the Nintendo Switch to create some truly awesome things.
The sets are due out on April 20, and you can pick up two different Toy-Con packages that day: the Variety Kit for $69.99, and the Toy-Con Robot Kit for $79.99. There’s also a Customization Set priced at $9.99 that comes with two stencil sheets, two sticker sheets, and two tape rolls to help make your creations pop.
The Toy-Con collection in the Variety Kit lets you make two RC cars, one fishing rod, one piano, one house, and one motorbike, with all the components you need to put all five projects together. The Robot kit lets you make your own robot, controllable via backpack and a headset that looks suspiciously like a VR headset, which could be part of the reason Nintendo has stated that the company isn’t interested in pursuing VR going forward.
This is quite the interesting move for Nintendo, but hardly a surprising one, given the company's propensity to bring families together with gaming experiences everyone can get into. These kits and their various applications look simplistic enough to invite creators of all skill levels into the fold, so if you're looking for an activity the whole family can enjoy, this certainly looks like one that should work for you. Yeah, actually that could work if you have the measurements and the right tools. Assuming of course you just break the cardboard and not the other equipment.

I love this. This will be some great time together with my kids doing different customizations, and then the games look to be pretty kid friendly. I'm sure they'll love the piano and house toys. Wish it was a touch cheaper, but since it's a physical release you're having to get over the hump of the Switch tax on the cart itself to get the cardboard sheets. But, at least you get several of them. That means each of my girls can design their own.

It covered with sheets that are already perforated you just need to pop them out and fold them.
Once you have the software you could in theory just build the stuff out of regular cardboard.-

It actually seems like a lot for 70 bucks.
•28 Cardboard Sheets (Kits have multiples for backups/designing)(one extra sheet for customization?).
•3 Reflective Sheets (for design).
•3 Sponge Sheets (Foam paper?).
•Various colours of String.
•Various Eyelets (metal circle to put string through. (thanks /u/Spectre_II).
•Many Elastic bands with spares.

well the wii fit board sold 22 million units...I could see this making a ton. there really isnt much stuff targated directly at kids outside of like lego games and skylanders. so environmentally friendly too

Watch that video, and pretend that printer at the beginning is spitting out money instead of cardboard. Because that's basically what it's doing.
