Arma Devs Reveal New VR Title, An Imaginative Puzzler

Bohemia Interactive reveals the third experience to be born from its incubator program, a simple game about a young girl with a big imagination.

Bohemia Interactive is known for its incredible, open-world military tactical shooter series Arma. The studio also has an incubator program where they test out new ideas across different areas of game development, a program that has given birth to the free-to-play FPS Project Argo and, most recently, the creative sandbox Ylands. Now, the studio is diving into the future of gaming by giving virtual reality a shot with Project Lucie, a single-player puzzler.

"Project Lucie is at a very early stage of development" explains Project Lead, Laurent Lavigne, in his welcome blog. "It includes just one of Lucie's stories, together with a creative sandbox and editor mode. We hope this 'slice' of features presents the core of what the game's about. As part of Bohemia Incubator, our intention is to let players try our game, and share with us their feedback, comments, and recommendations."

In Project Lucie, players take on the role of the eight-year-old title character whose story unfolds through a series of puzzles. There's also an editor mode that allows users to tap into their own vivid imaginations and create puzzles to share with others. The game can be played with mouse and keyboard, but is built for the Oculus Rift and Touch controllers.

Project Lucia is available for free in pre-alpha form on the Bohemia Interactive store (at the time of this writing, it's listed as "sold out" but that may change). The current story included is about a trip to the zoo that doesn't go quite as expected. In the editor, there are pre-made templates that you can tinker with. The VR version features a full physical simulation of the objects while the non-VR version is simplified.
